Edward Gaming wins against Gen. G who qualifies for the 2021 Worlds final

The second semi-final in these 2021 League of Legends Worlds with a meeting between the LCK seed 2 and the last hope of the LPL league. Gen.G faced EDward Gaming for a place in the playoff final.

A DUEL AT THE TOP

League of Legends Worlds 2021made their return yesterday, Saturday, October 30, with the second round of the Main Event playoffs. Last weekend the top eight teams from the group stage faced off in the quarter-finals of these qualifiers, and at the end of that event T1, EDward Gaming, DWG KIA, and Gen.G made it through. to get out of the game and qualify for the semi-finals. In the last square of this 2021 World Championship, we, therefore, find 3 Korean teams (out of the 4 qualified for the playoffs) and a Chinese team. The end of these Worlds 2021 is fast approaching and yesterday we saw what could have been the grand final of this tournament. On behalf of the first semi-final of the playoffs, DWG KIA, the reigning world champion, faced the team that lifted the Summoner’s Cup three times in the past, T1. This BO5 kept all its promises, and it was finally ShowMaker and his companions who managed to win and qualify for the grand final of the tournament. At the foot of the wall at the end of the third round, the DWGs were able to come back to the score, thus pushing Faker and the T1 to play the 5th round.

GEN.G VS EDWARD GAMING, FOR A PLACE IN THE FINAL

It is time to focus on the 2nd semi-final of these Worlds 2021, and the community only hope for one thing, that this meeting is just as competitive and pleasant to watch as the first. This match is most important for the Chinese community because it will feature the last representative of the LPL league. This is the second time this season that an LPL team will play a BO5 against an LCK team. The first time was during the Mid-Season Invitational when Royal Never Give Up won in the final against DWG KIA. Considering the level displayed by the two teams during the group stage and in the quarter-finals, it is not certain that we are witnessing a very great moment in League of Legends; EDG and Gen.G’s playstyle is quite messy, not to say chaotic, and players from both teams make a lot of mistakes. But it is still a semi-final of a World Championship.

Against RNG, the defending LPL champions somehow managed to go the distance and win by a score of 3 to 2. In a style specific to the Chinese region, this LPL clash against LPL is not necessarily a high level meeting or one that should serve as a benchmark, but this meeting was quite exciting, giving us some good times with some seductive plays. For the Korean team, Gen.G did not necessarily show a beautiful face against Cloud9; the North American representatives fought well, but they were swept away by a more realistic and intelligent opponent, especially in the late game. This meeting could last long; EDG and Gen.G both love to adopt a passive/defensive style of play when they see that the game is not going in their favor, to better resist the aggressive playing styles of their opponents. While the EDGs will make the most of the lanes phase to accumulate the most golds, the Gen.Gs will adopt a strategy of domination on the map, take maximum vision, and secure as many neutral objectives as possible.

Even if the poster is less dreamy than that of yesterday, there will be very beautiful people in this meeting, which promises us duels and clashes of a very high level. These two teams have one thing in common: their carries which are essential today as a crucial element of their way of playing, and the matchup on the bot lane which will be to watch. Ruler and Viper are both very good players, although their level of play is not necessarily the same as in the past; they have a significantly different style of play but are a centerpiece for their team. The Bdd / Scout duel could also be the most explosive, and the two teams will have to be careful in the management of the midlane, and no doubt that the two competitors will have to c œur to prove who is the best midlaner of this meeting, even if it means playing on the razor’s edge and thus taking risks which can tip the fate of the game from one side to the other.

Once is not custom, it will be the Midlanders and the bot lane to make the difference in this meeting. This LCK vs LPL duel could be more fascinating than it seems at first glance, provided of course that both teams play the game and strike the right balance between spectacle and performance.

GAME 1

It is an explosive start to a soundtrack that the two teams offer us with skirmishes that arrive very early in the lanes phase. As one can imagine, the majority of the actions are on the level of the bot lane, a standoff won by the Chinese competitors; the EDGs come out of the lane phase with the advantage, notably thanks to the Viper / Meiko duo on Lucian / Nami, but they quickly caught up as soon as the first real team fights arrived. Between confusion and chaos, the Gen.Gs are catching up a little with two better negotiated team fights, but the EDGs are ahead of the golds. The Chinese control most of the neutral targets, which will make all the difference at the end of the game. EDGs suffer for several minutes, but still manage to keep their heads above water; vs’ is from the half hour of play that and following many errors of Gen.G that the EDG will definitely take the game to their advantage. Many approximations in the positioning of Korean competitors who benefit the EDGs who chain winning team fights and goal-taking. The seeds 1 LPL grow and finally obtain the victory around the 40th minute of play after a fairly disputed meeting on both sides.

GAME 2

Both teams are back in Summoner’s Rift and Gen. G is the winner of the lane phase. Manhandled in the previous game, the Koreans seem to have woken up and are a bit more aggressive and realistic, not hesitating to take some risks to dislodge their opponents; a little before the 20th minute of play, the GENs have already taken a position in their opponents’ half of the field, playing high enough on the map and maximizing the vision. We are slowly approaching half an hour of play, the game is quite slow, with very few team fights or skirmishes; the two teams do not seek direct confrontation and prefer to take the maximum of golds on the lanes. As the two teams spent over 27 minutes staring each other in the eye, the game accelerates suddenly, after a failed EDG engagement; the Chinese are destroyed in team fights, and Gen. G take advantage of their momentum to move up a gear. In a matter of minutes, they make the first breakthrough, steal Baron Nashor, win a second team fight, break through again and win the game.

GAME 3

The two teams are therefore now tied and everything remains to be done in this BO. This third round is an almost identical copy of the previous one, with Gen.Gs very efficient in the lane phase and who manage to gain the upper hand over their opponents with a better position on the map, more efficient rotations, and more skirmishes. solid. In the 20th minute of play, the EDGs are more than 4k gold behind their opponents and have a little trouble getting out of their half of the field; they still manage to resist and almost stick to the golds before the half hour of the game. The Gen.Gs keep making mistakes in the mid game, making somewhat borderline decisions, and being stupidly penalized for positions that are too advanced. In addition to a series of blunders, Gen. G drastically slows down the pace, which makes the happiness of their opponents who see their draft reach its peak of power. The balance of power seems to have been reversed, the EDGs occupy the map and recover as many drakes as possible. But once again, the Gen.Gs find the backdoor in the EDG’s game plan; certainly, the Chinese recover Soul, but they lose a very precious team fight.

In numerical superiority, the GEN rush towards the enemy base, make a new breakthrough and secure this victory. In the same way as Game 2, the 3rd round was actually quite slow and everything suddenly accelerated a little before the 40th minute of play. the EDGs occupy the map and collect the maximum number of drakes.

GAME 4

First match point for Gen.G who will certainly have a hard time facing EDG in this 4th round. The start of this 4th game is a tragedy for the Koreans, especially for Bdd, who has had a very bad lane phase; the Gen.Gs try to make up for the shortfall in the early stages by taking the neutral objectives, but the Koreans are significantly behind by 4k golds in the quarter of an hour of play and are forced to play in their half of the field. The Gen.Gs are not in a strong position and learn it the hard way around the 17th minute, following a teamfight; they manage to recover the drake, but are totally destroyed in team fight, the work of Scout on his Zoe and Flanders of the Kennen is quite spectacular. The gap to golds is widening more and more, and the two teams continue to compete for neutral goals; Once again, Gen. G recover a drake, but lose the team fight, taking massive damage from the Kennen, Lucian, and Zoe. the EDGs recover their first drake and the first Nashor a little before half an hour after a new winning team fight; the Chinese take advantage of this strong moment to destroy the first defenses of the Korean base.

Mass is said a few minutes later. Unsurprisingly in view of the EDG draft, the Gen.Gs have really suffered, between Kenne, Zoe, and Lucian; Scout ends with a KDA of 12/0/7, while Viper closes this game with 6/0/8 of KDA. the EDGs recover their first drake and the first Nashor a little before half an hour after a new winning team fight; the Chinese take advantage of this strong moment to destroy the first defenses of the Korean base. Mass is said a few minutes later. Unsurprisingly in view of the EDG draft, the Gen.Gs have really suffered, between Kenne, Zoe, and Lucian; Scout ends with a KDA of 12/0/7, while Viper closes this game with 6/0/8 of KDA. the EDGs recover their first drake and the first Nashor a little before half an hour after a new winning team fight; the Chinese take advantage of this strong moment to destroy the first defenses of the Korean base.

GAME 5

We are therefore entitled to the 5th game between EDward Gaming and Gen.G, a Silver Scrapes to determine who will go to the final of the 2021 League of Legends Worlds to face DWG KIA. The early game is to the advantage of EDGs who is more effective on all lanes and in the control of the jungle. The EDG composition once again makes the difference and the JieJie / Scout duo is most formidable. The first team fight breaks out before the quarter of an hour of play and the Chinese once again show their superiority. The Gen.Gs have their heads underwater and see this victory pass them by. More than 4k gold separates the two teams in the 20th minute of play and the ESGs continue to put pressure on all the lanes. The Koreans take a big blow a little before the 25th minute of play; by wanting to defend the drake to prevent the EDGs from taking the 3rd, they are totally destroyed. The EDGs also get the Nashor back, and the Gen.Gs know full well that a victory is going to be more of a miracle. The EDG drives the point home a little after half an hour of play, they win the 5th round and the meeting.

For the first time in the club’s history, the EDward Gaming are qualifying for the 2021 Worlds Grand Final. We will not have a 100% Korean final for this 2021 edition, and the LPL is keeping the hopes of one alive. crowned in this tournament, but EDG’s next opponent will be of a different ilk. Three Korean teams qualified for the semi-finals, but only one managed to reach the final.
