The new Netflix offer is finally available!
After an announcement this summer, recruitments, rumors of partnerships with Playstation, a test launch abroad at the start of the school year, Netflix has decided to launch its first gaming offer with 5 games, finally available worldwide including here. in France.
Android or nothing
For the moment this offer is only available on Android Mobile and Tablet, so sorry for iPhone, Windows PC and Mac users, but you will still have to be a little patient! Once the application is open you will be able to find a new games area, on a tablet you can also select games in the Categories menu. If you are the owner of an account on the VOD platform, you just have to click on the game that will send you to the Play Store to download it for free. Games are not available in the youth area, or if a parental control code is in place.
Content level, no big news compared to the tests a little earlier in other countries. Five games are available, small mobile games like Shooting Hoops a game where you have to know how to aim to mix basketball and darts, Card Blast a puzzle game version, and Teeter Up a gravity game with a ball to guide in a hole. For the other two, the Stranger Things franchise is highlighted with: Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3: The Game.
A promising start
We will note the disappointment of some on the quality of the games which are small mobile applications or the lack of diversity in the catalog, but we must not forget that we are at the beginning of the experience! You have to see how things evolve, but remember that Netflix has recruited big names in video games, that a smartphone cannot support a huge game either, so we can largely imagine then great and beautiful games that would be available depending on platforms such as PCs, consoles with why not a cloud gaming system as mentioned for a time a bit like Google Stadia!
Netflix is diversifying its offer. Since its launch in 2013, the platform has regularly offered its subscribers films, series, and documentaries, a catalog among the most diverse of the streaming giants, within particular original productions, viewed all over the globe. But it seems that this was no longer enough since November 2, French subscribers have access to a new feature called Netflix Gaming or Netflix Games. The principle? Five games, available on smartphones and tablets, are accessible to all subscribers of the platform if they want to take a little break between two episodes of their favorite series.
Two games derived from a famous series
Among the games on offer, two are based on the hit series Stranger Things. Entitled Stranger Things: 1984, and Stranger Things 3, these bring players back to Hawkins, through two very different designs. The first thus plunges players into a pixelated universe, specific to the first video games, and which is part of the time when the action of the Netflix series takes place. The second offers a more detailed design, for a plot set during season 3 of the series, with however new quests and characters. Among the other games, Shooting Hoops, a darts game, Card Blast, a poker game, but also Teeter Up, an arcade game.
How to access Netflix gaming?
To play these five games, subscribers will not have to pay a penny, their access is included in the subscription price, regardless of the formula. However, this service is not yet open to all users, since, for the moment, only those with an Android phone or tablet can use it and access the Netflix Games section. And for that, nothing could be simpler: just go to the specific tab created for the service on the smartphone application, or in the corresponding category of the drop-down menu if you are on a tablet. By clicking on their favorite game, users will automatically be sent to the Google Play Store to download and play.
